When you give a dog a birthday...
she's going to want a cake.

well...
she EATS IT!
I really wanted to make this a story a-la If You Give a Mouse a Cookie, but let's face it...German Shepherds love to eat, and it's not much more complicated than that.
Violet came to our family last year after my on call life became a lonely one every other weekend when my family would travel to Southern Illinois as we always have to visit my two amazing stepsons. Being a birth photographer, I don't get to make those trips as often, and I'm often quite sorrowful as my husband and girls drive away and I stay behind to work. I announced to my husband upon their return one weekend many months ago...baby, I think I need a dog.
And there was Violet.
Spunky, wild puppy that she was...the largest pup in an unexpected litter a couple towns over...it was love at first sight. Our home is a little hairier these days (no really, why didn't anyone tell me JUST how much they shed?!), and our bed is a little more crowded (because naturally she curls right up with me and Wesley each night; she's child number 5, not just a pet in this house), but our hearts are so full.
Happy first birthday to the best anti depressant a girl could have. You're my best furry friend, Violet. I'm so thrilled you're my pup.
