The birth that started it all...(Nashville, TN Birth Photographer)

When I first moved to Nashville, TN for my husband's new job I was quite nervous about "starting over". I had a modest but growing photography business of two years, I had loyal clients, and my talents were really just beginning to take off.

What did Nashville hold for me?

I was afraid of fizzling out. I was afraid of being a very tiny fish in a very HUGE pond. I didn't know anyone...no friends, family, nothing. Would my business survive?

Then I met Kimberly.

Kimberly and Ross Daigle, my first birth clients and first friends here in Nashville.

Kimberly was my neighbor. I had posted in a local neighborhood app that I was a photographer, new to the area, and ready to begin accepting new clients so I could get a few people in the door and knowing my name. She messaged me privately...had I ever considered birth photography?

So far so good...!

My answer was an emphatic YES! I hadn't photographed any yet of course, mostly due to the fact that I had recently had my own baby, the last baby to count our kid tally up to four, and I didn't want the "on call" life just yet. But after our move...I was ready.

I was, admittedly, a bit nervous. I had given birth to two beautiful girls but I had never witnessed a live birth other than my own. Would I love it? Would I get scared? Would I freeze?

Turns out...I was made for this stuff. I got the call in the wee hours of the morning. The adrenaline rush hit- I was WIDE awake. Grabbed my bag all packed and ready to go, and headed out the door. Hours felt like minutes, it was just so exciting to be a part of birth from behind my camera! It was a rush, and every step of the way was just as thrilling as the next. Hours went by...and baby was close. I never lost focus, I never got scared. It was the most exciting thing I've ever done.

Then here was baby. Witnessing her birth was being witness to a miracle. And I was HOOKED. I spent that moment forward building births as the core of my business, and it continues to be the focus of my photography today. (While these particular photos are mostly in black and white, I do tend to keep color in my births today...unless, like this one, it is requested of me!)
