Why should I hire a photographer? | AluraWayne Photography

Here's a great question for the digital age we live in today, where every phone is a camera, and we can all click away and easily snap dozens of photos a day...why actually hire a professional photographer?

Professional photography is a luxury, like many things we can choose to spend our hard earned money on. And when technology is literally at our fingertips, it's easy to add photography as another DIY project and dismiss anything beyond that. And do you know what I think about that as a professional photographer? That is JUST fine. Sure, I make my living this way! But I'll be the first to say it- it's just not a priority for everyone.

But for me, a skilled eye behind the lens *IS* an absolute necessity and worthwhile investment for my own family. Every year I pay other professionals to photograph my family. Sure, I take my own photos all the time of my kids, and I treasure those SO much, whether I take them with my pro camera or just an iPhone. I will usually book several sessions throughout the year to capture photos that I can't- my family as a whole, with me actually in the photos for a change! Or mommy and me sessions that capture those sweet little moments with my girls...And sessions with just me and my husband together to keep that fire burning, and the occasional boudoir session for that very same reason...;) I cherish every single session, because it captures the moments that I can't. Not just because I'm in them, but because someone else gets to look inside our lives, our relationships, our dynamic together, while I get to actively participate in a way that isn't just hidden behind a phone or a lens. I also spend a lot of time carefully choosing a photographer who's art and craft I know I'll treasure forever.

I absolutely pride myself on not just snapping a photo- I carefully and deliberately capture each moment, I illustrate the emotion behind that moment, and I have an artistic eye for how to really frame an image and then carefully edit it by hand using a variety of skills that I have honed through the years. I want you to be able to look back through your photos and be able to feel the things you felt that day, and to enjoy those moments over and over again. I want to freeze those moments in time so you can treasure them for years and years to come. And I want to artistically edit each photo in such a way that draws out the beauty to its fullest.

I have so many of my own memories that motivate me to capture so many more for myself, for my husband, for my children, and even their children someday... take maternity photos, for example. My mom only has TWO photos of herself pregnant, and both were from her pregnancy with my brother. I wish I had more to look back on!! Though there is no shortage of both professional photos and personal photos of us kids growing up, she just isn't in many of them at all. Photographs from my childhood are so sacred to me, I treasure every single one. But how I wish my mother was in more of them too!! That is something I think about a lot as a mother now myself. Photos of my pregnant belly, my babies, my children growing up so fast before my eyes...all of the photos I have of these moments are priceless reminders of each precious stage we've shared together. And I want my children to be able to look back on these someday and see us as a whole family in those images. To me, that's a WORTHY investment and always will be.
