What to Wear- A Style Guide for your Session! | AluraWayne Photography
I get so many questions about what to wear. And it's truly important- the look of your photos can totally change just based on what you choose to wear!
Take this family for example- I took these photos in a relatively simple space and backdrop- lots of green (which I love!) But their outfits really tied their whole family in together (and mama is a local photographer, so she knew exactly what she was doing!!):
Just a few of my favorite things...a great color palette (creams, tans, mustard-y browns, a simple floral to add some visual interest, and a mixture of textures!)
Here's another example of a well coordinated family in a different setting:
A different approach: everyone in different colors! But there's still a theme here...these are still more earthy tones. Even the pink is more of a muted rose, and all of the materials flow together very organically. I love a good sundress with details like this one has! It has visual interest on the front, and with the way it ties in the back. The girls have nice flowy dresses which add visual interest even when they sit or stand ( or twirl!). And one of my favs: FLOWER CROWNS! These are real baby's breath crowns that this mama made herself with some floral tape!
Now let's talk maternity...there are SO many great options for maternity. I'll have suggestions for vendors with links at the bottom of this post, but here are some of my favorite looks I've had from clients lately.
This mustard is TO DIE FOR. I'm always a fan of mustard clothing. Anytime. Anywhere. I love the rich vibrance with my editing style!
Another pro-tip... make the most of your maternity session by bringing a second look! This mama brought THREE! Check out her other two gorgeous looks:
Here's another favorite of mine in fashion lately...velvet!! It looks gorgeous photographed against both light and dark backgrounds!
One of my favorite gowns I've seen all over lately can be used for maternity Or a regular session! It even comes in a variety of colors!
Home based sessions are amazing options for maternity as well. You can stay comfy in pjs, like this couple:
Or make it more boudoir-esque mixed with comfort!
Last but not least...NEWBORN! I come to your home for newborn sessions and want you to be comfortable and cozy. I usually suggest comfortable, unrestrictive clothing, especially for mom! Lighter fabrics and colors, especially in a more neutral color palette, tend to photograph the best- with baby too! Here are some great examples of this.
So want to know some of my favorite spots for outfits for the whole family? Check out the following:
H&M (Super easy to find things for the whole family that work together, I use them a lot for my own family photos!)
Pink Blush (For women)
Altar'd State (For women- my last family session with my own family had clothing from here!)
Molly Green (For women- I've gotten several outfits for myself here for photos!)
Free People (For women)
Jamie Kay (Gorgeous handmade children's clothing)
Ira Loves Mae (More gorgeous handmade kids clothes- and some women's dresses!)
